Kevin McCarthy

Kevin McCarthy MB. BCh. BAO.

Chair, IAC Committees, IIRRM Board of Trustees.

Dr Kevin McCarthy is a General Medical Practitioner (GP) in the UK (England).  After graduating from University College Dublin (UCD) in the Republic of Ireland in 1977 he completed his postgraduate training in General Practice in Australia (Australian Family Medicine Training Program) and the UK (NHS GP Postgraduate Training Program).

Dr McCarthy also spent several years working in hospitals in Australia, Ireland and the UK, gaining experience in Paediatrics and Neonatology, (including care of premature infants) and in Obstetrics & Gynaecology respectively, before embarking in 1982 on a challenging career as a Family Physician (GP) in the NHS. During the course of this training, he obtained a Diploma in Obstetrics from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecology (D. Obst. RCOG) and a Diploma in Child Health (DCH).

Dr McCarthy worked part-time from 1993 to 2001 as a Forensic Medical Examiner (FME) for the London Metropolitan Police Service, providing medical care for prisoners in police custody and for injured police officers, attending crime scenes and domestic incidents, and giving forensic and medical evidence in court.

In 2001 Dr McCarthy completed the FertilityCare Medical Consultant (FCMC) training program, under the direction of Dr Thomas Hilgers (Clinical Professor, Department of ObGyn, Creighton University Medical School, Omaha, Nebraska, US and founder of the 'Creighton Model FertilityCare System' and 'Napotechnology).
He then went on to set up 'The London Centre for Naprotechnology' for the treatment of Infertility and Women's Health conditions, where he was the Certified FertilityCare Medical Consultant (CFMC) and Centre Director for 10 years.

In 2015 Dr McCarthy took on a new challenge, working as a Community Doctor in a small multidisciplinary team. The goal was to set up an innovative way of providing health and care services for the elderly in the community, with a view to both avoiding ED and hospital inpatient admissions and supporting hospital discharges, through an integrative care/multidisciplinary team approach. Over the years this initiative has grown exponentially and there is now a vibrant Urgent Community Response (UCR), Frailty and Virtual Ward service for adult patients of all ages in the local population, while working closely with other community services, including community nursing and palliative care services. This project received a 'High Commendation' for 'Improving Care for Older People Initiative of the Year' at a National NHS award ceremony in 2022. Dr McCarthy is continuing to work as a practising GP within this service.

With colleagues from Canada and Ireland, Dr McCarthy participated in the founding and naming of the International Institute for Restorative Reproductive Medicine (IIRRM) in 2001, after they coined the term restorative reproductive medicine (RRM) for this new approach to Reproductive Health.  Dr McCarthy was the first President of the Institute and was a member of the Institute's Board of Directors for 10 years. He is now a trustee and Chair of the (IIRRM) International Advisory Committees (IACs). He is passionate about spreading both the concept and the practice of restorative reproductive medicine globally.
